Based on traditional Swedish folklore about a mythical house elf or gnome known as a "tomten," after the poem by Viktor Rydberg.
Astrid Lindgren (known for Pippi Longstocking), worked at the Swiss publishing house Rabén & Sjögren as the head of the children's book section from 1946 to 1970, when Rydberg originally published his poem there in Swiss under the title Tomtem. Asrid's German publisher, rather than translate it, asked her to write an adapted version of the text.
Condition: laminated boards illustrated in colour, no titles on spine, slightly bumped at corners, else a fine copy.
