Little is in a bad mood and is worried that Large — his mamma or daddy fox — won’t love him anymore.
“‘If I were a grumpy grizzly bear,
Would you still love me?
Would you still care?’
“‘Of course,' said Large.
‘Bear or not,
I’d always love you,
no matter what.’”
And Little fox continues to ask Large fox if she'd still love him if he were a mosquito, or a crocodile. (Of course she would.)
With a surprisingly sophisticated closing message, in a book geared towards babies, about what happens when love breaks. Little fox asks Large whether love can “wear out”: “Does it break or bend? Can you fix it or patch it? Does it mend?” And she answers with wisdom and reassurance.
